Laser Assisted Periodontal Treatment
Researchers have discovered an important connection between periodontal disease and heart disease, stroke, diabetes, pre-term low birth weight babies, cancers, Alzheimer’s, respiratory disease, kidney disease plus others. If you do require periodontal treatment it can now be done painlessly with lasers, avoiding surgery in most cases. The treatment has no side effects and will in fact enhance your immune system and overall health. New developments have added options to treatment that allow a rapid reduction in pocket depth and home maintenance, without the need for quarterly deep cleanings, and most often avoiding surgery. We are now providing the following treatments: Laser Assisted Perio Therapy, targeted nutritional supplements, Hydrofloss, specialized toothbrushes, special toothpaste and rinses. Our goal is to allow you to play the most important role in staying healthy for life. For more information visit: www.centerfordentalmedicine.com We now have the capability to remove the affected enamel and decay in many cases without a high speed drill or shot. It is done by a tiny sand blaster that only removes small amounts of tooth and decay. It leaves only a hole the size of the decay and this hole is easily filled with a tooth-colored plastic filling that makes the tooth stronger not weaker. Tooth decay is removed with an airjet instrument which never touches the tooth surface; it delivers a steam of inert particles to abrade the precise area of decay. The conventional drill grinds the enamel, unfortunately creating tiny fractures because of the vibration and friction. Besides conserving more of the tooth and elimination fracture problems, a beneficial side effect of using the air-abrasion method is that it frequently can be used without anesthesia, because it eliminates the discomfort of the heat and vibration of a drill.
NewTom three dimensional scans provide the practitioner and the patient unprecedented visualization of dental and cranial anatomic information. This leads to better diagnoses and treatment planning and increases patient knowledge. With precise 1:1 scale imaging, NewTom technology eliminates the magnification errors of conventional imaging technology. 3D imaging allows the doctors to identify potentially serious problems, such as airway passage obstructions and soft tissue abnormalities, and helps avoid potential errors due to the image distortion and magnification commonly found with 2D imaging technology. A unique ambulatory device, providing auto-analysis and auto-reporting for evaluating airway related sleep disorders in an un-attended home environment. The Eccovision provides a means to thoroughly and accurately assess the patient's airway. Completely painless and non-invasive, the Eccovision emits sound waves through a self-contained central processing unit comprised of two tools: the rhinometer and pharyngometer. They map the patient's nasal passages and pharyngeal airway, respectively, via a technique called 'acoustic reflection'. The results are on-screen graphs directly correlating to the physicality of the patient's nasal passages and pharyngeal airway. According to Hood Labs, the manufacturer of the Eccovision, the acoustic reflection technique 'utilizes a patented, state-of-the-art acoustic signal processing technology to provide graphical representations of airway patency as a function of distance from the airway opening'. It is estimated that during their lifetime 80% of the U.S. population will develop gum disease and that once it starts it does not usually reverse itself without specialized care.
To detect decay in teeth dentist have always used the hand explorer. A sharp curved instrument that will ‘stick' in a groove or pit of a tooth when a softening of the enamel occurs or decay is present. Sometimes the decay is large by the time an explorer can stick. Now using the KaVo DIAGNOent laser, decay can be detected much earlier and can also be used to monitor the progression of small decays at each dental hygiene appointment.
